CCAA East 2 Division reveals girls basketball All-Star teams

Local players earn league recognition

The Salamanca Lady Warriors finished atop the CCAA East 2 Division in the regular season of Section VI girls basketball, so it comes as no surprise that the league champions were well represented on the CCAA East 2 All-Stars, released earlier this week.

Senior Nizhoni Kennedy was selected as the division’s Most Valuable Player. This year, she averaged over 11 points per game with 188 total points. She also racked up 109 rebounds, 34 steals, 18 assists and 11 blocks in 17 games played.

Salamanca’s Jaeden Hubbard was named a First Team All-Star, after posting a team-high 195 total points in 21 games, with an average of just over 9 points per game. Hubbard, a junior, also had a team-high 225 total rebounds, at an average of more than 10 rebounds per game.

Also on the First Team, Cattaraugus-Little Valley leading scorer Alex Minnekine earned a First Team All-Star spot after averaging just over 12.5 points per game this season, with 213 total points in 17 games. She also had 73 rebounds and 59 steals. Emilee Ruiz and Makenna Smith of Ellicottville also made the First Team All-Star team. Smith led Ellicottville with 199 total points in 20 games, while Ruiz was second on the team with 184 points in 20 games. Makenna Williams, who led North Collins in scoring with 165 points in 17 games, also earned a First Team All-Star selection.

Salamanca senior Kylee Dowdy was selected as a Second Team All-Star. She averaged just over 9 points per game and 9 rebounds per game as a senior for the Lady Warriors. Dowdy recorded 174 total points and 177 total rebounds in 19 games played this season. Madeline Jones of Cattaraugus-Little Valley was a Second Team All-Star with 140 total points and 121 total rebounds in 19 games. Emma Rupp, also of Cattaraugus-Little Valley, made the Second Team with 115 points and 120 rebounds in 16 games. Evelyn Nuzzo of Ellicottville made the Second Team with 135 points in 18 games, while Ellicottville’s Camryn Earley was a Second Team selection with 105 points in 19 games.

Salamanca coach Bryelle Wallin was named the CCAA East 2 Division Coach of the Year after guiding her team to the league title with a league record of 7-1 on the year.

Also for Salamanca, Marla Warrior earned Honorable Mention. She was joined on the Honorable Mentions list by Jillian Rea of Ellicottville, Abby Minnekine of Cattaraugus-Little Valley, Hailey Jasinski and Michaela Rice of North Collins, and for Pine Valley Lady Panthers: Haley Campell, Sadie Fadale, Payton Swanson and Lyric Westlund.

Pine Valley and Ellicottville shared the Sportsmanship Award.
