The Westfield Wolverines won back-to-back league titles in the CCAA West 2 Division, and with those two titles came two First Team selections this season.

Seniors Ryan Jafarjian and Michael Johnson were selected as First Team All-Stars by the CCAA West 2 Division in the league’s season honors recently announced. Both players averaged over 12 points per game as Westfield seniors, providing the Wolverines with consistent production on a nightly basis. Jafarjian had 258 points, 119 rebounds, 38 assists and 48 steals on the season, while Johnson had 268 points, 88 rebounds, 53 assists and 43 steals. They both played in all 21 games this season.

“I’m glad Ryan and Michael got on [the First Team],” said Westfield coach Bob North. “They had a couple big games, and people will always remember big games. … With how we played and spread the ball around, it’s not always easy to get the recognition.”

Also on the First Team All-Stars were Frewsburg senior Brad Nelson, Maple Grove senior Peter Auer and Sherman junior John Swabik.

Panama senior Cameron Barmore was an easy selection as Player of the Year, after posting 607 points and 300 rebounds in 21 games. He led all of Section VI, regardless of class size or league in both categories.

Westfield senior point guard Nathan Culbreth was selected as a Second Team All-Star. Culbreth’s ability was greatly under-appreciated by the rest of the league because of his willingness to distribute, rather than score for himself. With a total of 163 points in 21 games for an average of 7.7 points per game, Culbreth was the lowest-scoring starter for Westfield. However, he led the team with 131 assists, 51 steals and ranked second on the team with 127 rebounds. Culbreth led the league in assists and steals on the season among players with provided statistics.

Also on the Second Team All-Stars was Frewsburg senior Aaron Hair, Maple Grove senior Darius Jones, Sherman senior Justiss Hannold and Clymer junior Hunter Wassink.

The Westfield Wolverines added two players on the Honorable Mention list: Dylan Scriven and Darien Swanson. Scriven had 200 points on the season, along with 96 rebounds, 55 assists and 35 steals. Swanson, a sophomore regularly used as the team’s sixth man, had 124 points and 71 assists on the year, along with 54 rebounds and 35 steals. He will likely be counted on much more next season, as Westfield featured an all-senior starting five this season.

Panama led the league with three Honorable Mention players, including Gerrit Hinsdale, Braden Cook and Connor Cooper. Hinsdale was surprising to see as an Honorable Mention after posting 267 points, 150 rebounds and 104 assists on the season. His 12.7 points per game were second on the Panama Panthers, who finished tied for second place in the league.

Maple Grove, Sherman, Frewsburg and Cassadaga Valley all added two players on the Honorable Mention list, while the Brocton Bulldogs had one player listed. Tyler McPherson and Ayden Reagle represented Maple Grove, Gerald Carris and Keith Gormley represented Sherman, Frewsburg had Jameson Sposato and Peyton Hayes, and Cassadaga Valley boasted the youngest duo on the Honorable Mention list with sophomore Wyatt Harrington and freshman Braden LeBaron, the youngest player on the league honors at any tier. Brocton’s lone representative was senior Michael Steward.

Westfield won the league with a record of 12-2 in league play. Panama, Frewsburg and Maple Grove all tied for second place at 10-4. Sherman also had a winning record in league play at 8-6, then proceeded to win the Section VI, Class D Championship.
