Wolfe leads Wednesday Travel League at Pinehurst GC

WESTFIELD — The Wednesday Travel League had a last-minute change of venue as steady rain storms made it impossible to play its original course, Whispering Pines Golf Course in Meadville, Pennsylvania.

With the weather much better near Lake Erie, the league was fortunate enough to get Pinehurst Golf Club in Westfield to accommodate them, so all 35 golfers drove from Meadville to Westfield for a shotgun start.

Mike Wolfe and Robert Calph tied for the low score of 78, with Wolfe the overall winner on a tiebreaker. Chad Gollnitz and Al Etzel tied for third with 80. Calph shot an even-par 36 to lead the front nine while Wolfe led the back nine with 38.

In the B Flight, Dave Criscione was the winner after a tiebreaker with Dave Momberger. In the C Flight, Dave Franklin was the winner after a tiebreaker with Jim Ellman Sr. The D Flight winner was John Waterman. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Bob Kujawa.
