Thompson picks up first Travel League victory

VENANGO — Bob Thompson won his first Wednesday Travel League tour event of the season with a low round of 77 at Country Meadows Golf Course.

Ed Tofil was second with an 81 and Bill Aldrich was third with an 86.

Thompson led the front nine with a 1-over-par 37 while Tofil and Mike Wolfe matched Thompson’s 40 for the low back nine. Gary Haase was the B Flight champion. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Angelo Leone.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Thompson (Nos. 6, 9, 10 and 13) and Wolfe (Nos. 11, 17); B Flight — Jack Hood (No. 2), Lenny Leszkowicz (Nos. 6, 8, 13), Don Kujawa (No. 7) and Haase (Nos. 16, 17, 18).

Closest to the pin were Tom Destro (No. 2) and Wolfe (Nos. 8, 11, 17).

Top point winners were Wolfe (54), Thompson (24), Haase (16) and Hood(15).

Bob Thompson went over 2,500 career points after this week’s action.
