Thompson claims ‘Travel’ golf win

WESTFIELD — A special Thursday edition of the Wednesday Travel League was held at Pinehurst Golf Club on Nov. 19.

Bob Thompson shot the low round of 81 to capture his second tour victory of the season and the 10th of his career. Ed Tofil finished second with 84 while Bill Aldrich and Mike Wolfe tied for third with 88. Thompson led both the front (41) and back (40) nines. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Jack Hood.

Untied birdies were recorded by Ken Kaus (Nos. 5, 12), Thompson (Nos. 9, 10, 18), and Tofil (No.15). Closest to the pin were Hood (Nos. 4, 7) and Tofil (No. 16).

Top point winners were Thompson (18), Kaus and Tofil (11 each), and Hood (8). Following are the season points leaders: 1. Wolfe (443), 2. Gary Haase (326), 3. Pat Weaver (311), 4. John Tofil (310), 5. Dave Wallace and Robert Calph (299 each), 7. Butch Mackowiak (277), 8. John Waterman (263), 9. Tom Destro (245) and 10. Dave Criscione (231).

Mike Wolfe will win his third career season points title (2017, ’18, ’20), tying him with John Waterman(’01, ’02, ’04), Kerry Murphy(’05, ’06, ’07), and Ed Tofil (’13, ’14, ’15) for most all-time.
