JAMESTOWN — It continues to be a memorable season for the Jamestown Community College men’s swimming & diving team, having five student-athletes make both the First- and Second-Team All-Region teams.

“These kids have worked hard and sacrificed so much, both in the pool and personally,” said head coach Todd Conklin. “I couldn’t ask for a better group to coach and am happy they have been recognized by being named to the First- and Second-Team All-Region teams this year.”

The Jayhawks, who were named the NJCAA Region 3 champions last weekend, filled five First-Team All-Region slots with sophomore Eathan Johnson (Panama/Panama Central School) leading the way with three honors.

Eathan Johnson made the first team in two individual events, posting a time of 33.40 in the 50-yard breaststroke and 1:12.47 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Johnson also made the Second Team All-Region team in two times, including one individual event. He posted a time of 2:46.57 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Freshman Colby Pantall (Jamestown/Maple Grove Junior-Senior High School) made the First-Team All-Region team for two events, including one individual event. Pantall posted a time of 6:11.58 in the 500-yard freestyle. He also made the Second Team All-Region team in two events, including the 1,650-yard freestyle, posting a time of 21:38.90.

Freshman Jackson Vanstrom (Jamestown/Southwestern Central School) had one First-Team All-Region honor, posting a time of 21:13.62 in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Vanstrom also had four Second-Team All-Region performances in the 500-yard freestyle (6:12.32), 1,000-yard freestyle (12:45.59), 50-yard butterfly (33.01) and 100-yard butterfly (1:16.00).

Freshman Matthew Fennell (Fourways Garden, Johannesburg, South Africa/King Edwards VII School) made the Second-Team All-Region team with five honors, including four individual events. Fennell made the second team in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.86), 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.43), 100-yard individual medley (1:10.02), and 200-yard individual medley (2:41.01). The time posted in the 100-yard individual medley is a new school record.

Sophomore Elliot Johnson (Panama/Panama Central School) collected four Second-Team All-Region honors, including three individual events. Johnson made the second team in the 50-yard freestyle (24.85), 100-yard freestyle (56.35) and 200-yard freestyle (2:07.96).

The team of Elliot Johnson, Eathan Johnson, Pantall and Fennell made First-Team All-Region in the 400-yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 4:01.42 and made Second-Team All-Region in the 200-yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 1:48.88.

“We are looking forward to a great national swim meet,” Conklin said. “We still have some great swims ahead of us and we can’t wait.”

The Jayhawks will look to carry over their success from this season as they travel to Fort Pierce, Florida, for the 2021 NJCAA Swimming & Diving Championships on April 28.
