Looking to avoid a season sweep, the Jamestown Community College softball team dropped a pair of games Sunday afternoon to Corning Community College at the Fireman’s Field in Lakewood.

The Jayhawks (0-6, 0-2 WNYAC) started to find their bats in their home-opener, collecting five hits in the 14-0 loss. Freshman pitcher Samantha Heppel (Angola/Lake Shore High School) went the distance in the circle, giving up 12 hits while striking out six batters.

In the back end of the doubleheader, the Barons held their defensive hold over the Jayhawks who had one hit in the 17-0 loss. Sophomore right fielder Mackenzie Watson (Jamestown/Jamestown High School) had the lone hit.

Heppel showed her skills as a baserunner, stealing a base after being hit by a pitch. She also took the loss in the circle, giving up nine hits in 2 2/3 innings of action. Pagett came in relieve, going 1 1/3 innings and getting a strikeout.
