Fredonia moves on to B2 final

AKRON — No. 3 Fredonia advanced to the Section VI Class B2 title game, knocking off No. 2 Akron 8-3 on Tuesday.

Maddy Marsh continued her hot hitting, collecting three hits and was the winning pitcher; Lila Cameron and Hallie Laurito each had two hits; Jaelyn Davis belted a triple; and Jenna Truby added a double for the Hillbillies.

Now 15-1 on the season, they will play the winner of the Wilson-Eden game Thursday for the championship.

Fredonia led 5-0 after the top of the second inning, but Akron pushed across three runs in the bottom of the frame. The score remained that way until the Hillbillies added a run in the fifth and, aided by some defensive changes and putting Marissa Cash in the circle, Akron didn’t threaten in its final three at-bats.

In the top of the seventh, Fredonia added some insurance runs as Truby led off with a double and Laurito singled in a pair of runs to put the game away.

Sam Henning allowed eight hits and only struck out one, but did not walk a batter in the circle for Clymer/Sherman.

Sophia Vanstrom went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored while Cate Ayers struck out one, walked five and allowed six hits in four innings for North Collins.
