No. 7 Golden Cougars get by No. 10 Panthers

FALCONER — A pair of first-half goals sent No. 7 Falconer/Cassadaga Valley to 2-1 victory over No. 10 Pine Valley/Gowanda in Section VI Class B2 prequarterfinal action at Bill Race Field.

Alex Reynolds scored from Christian Wilshire in the 21st minute before Dylan Ansell tallied from Haydn Myers in the 27th minute for the Golden Cougars.

Wayne Libby scored from Owen Ward for the Panthers.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley will travel to Johnnie B. Wiley Stadium on Thursday to play No. 2 Bennett.

SOUTHWESTERN MOVES ON

WEST ELLICOTT — Connor Young scored twice as No. 4 Southwestern blanked No. 13 Eden 4-0 in Class B2 prequarterfinal action.

Spencer Kane opened the scoring in the 14th minute before Young made it 2-0 in the 47th minute.

Nolan Froah then scored from Kane in the 49th minute before Young closed the scoring in the 63rd minute from Oliver Hagel.

Jonas Gesing made one save in net for the Trojans, who will host No. 5 Lackawanna on Thursday.

BEARS WIN THRILLER

FREWSBURG — Lucas Eckman scored from Garrett Brink in the 10th minute of overtime to send No. 7 Frewsburg past No. 10 Randolph 2-1 in Class C prequarterfinal play.

Zack Carr opened the scoring for the Bears from Trent Bjork in the 25th minute of play.

Griffin Nelson tied the game in the 66th minute with a goal from Mathurin Griffith for the Cardinals.

ROYALTON-HARTLAND ADVANCES

MIDDLEPORT — Landen Guild scored three times to lead No. 3 Royalton-Hartland to a 9-0 shutout of No. 14 Salamanca/Cattaraugus-Little Valley in Class B2 prequarterfinal play.

Peter Martillotta and Elijah Giroux each scored twice while Jayden Swygert and Remington Albee also scored for the Rams, who will host No. 6 Alden on Thursday.
