Westfield softball earns No. 1 seed in playoffs

Falconer and Westfield will both be No. 1 seeds as the Section VI softball postseason opens today.

The Golden Falcons are the top seed in Class C and will host a quarterfinal game Thursday at 5 p.m. against the winner of today’s prequarterfinal sending No. 9 Silver Creek to No. 8 Frewsburg. No. 4 Randolph will host No. 13 Tapestry, No. 10 Salamanca will travel to No. 7 Wilson, No. 5 Barker will host No. 12 Holland and No. 6 Chautauqua Lake will host No. 11 Maple Grove in other prequarterfinals.

No. 3 Gowanda awaits the Maple Grove/Chautauqua Lake winner and the Salamanca/Wilson winner will travel to No. 2 Portville.

In Class D, the Wolverines will host a Thursday quarterfinal against the winner of today’s prequarterfinal sending No. 9 Forestville to No. 8 Brocton. No. 7 Pine Valley will host No. 10 Franklinville in another prequarterfinal today.

On Thursday, No. 5 Clymer/Sherman will visit No. 4 West Valley, the Franklinville/Pine Valley winner will travel to No. 2 North Collins and No. 6 Panama will visit No. 3 Ellicottville.

In Class B2, Fredonia is the No. 2 seed and will host a Thursday quarterfinal against the winner of today’s prequarterfinal sending No. 10 Southwestern to No. 7 Akron. No. 11 Allegany-Limestone will visit No. 6 JFK, No. 12 Newfane will travel visit No. 5 Olmsted at McCarthy Park and No. 9 Medina will travel to No. 8 Cleveland Hill in other prequarterfinals.

No. 1 Eden will host the Medina/Cleveland Hill winner, No. 4 Alden will host the Newfane/Olmsted winner and No. 3 Royalton-Hartland will host the Allegany-Limestone/JFK winner Thursday.

In Class B1, No. 5 Dunkirk will host No. 12 Lackawanna in prequarterfinal action today. Other prequartefinals include No. 9 Maryvale traveling to No. 8 Tonawanda, No. 10 Springville visiting No. 7 Albion and No. 11 Lewiston-Porter visiting No. 6 City Honors at Shoshone Park.

Quarterfinal games Thursday in Class B1 will see No. 1 Depew hosting the Maryvale/Tonawanda winner, No. 4 Lake Shore hosting the Lackawanna/Dunkirk winner, No. 2 Olean hosting the Springville/Albion winner and No. 3 East Aurora hosting the Lewiston-Porter/City Honors winner.

In Class AA, No. 6 Jamestown will travel to No. 3 Clarence for a Thursday quarterfinal. No. 4 Williamsville North will host No. 5 Niagara Falls and No. 2 Lancaster will host No. 7 Frontier that same day. Orchard Park is the No. 1 seed and will host a semifinal Wednesday, May 25.

Niagara Wheatfield is the No. 1 seed in Class A1 and Cheektowaga is the No. 1 seed in Class A2.
