T’birds edge North Collins 1-0

MAYVILLE — Cole Otto’s goal in the 25th minute proved to be enough as Chautauqua Lake edged North Collins (4-6-1, 2-6-0) 1-0 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Central Division action on Wednesday.

Chautauqua Lake (6-2-1, 4-2-1) continues to solidify its position as the second-best team in the Central Division, but a Maple Grove victory on Wednesday officially dashed away hopes of winning a share of the league title.

BEARS DOWN WOLVERINES

FREWSBURG — Zack Carr and Connor Murray potted two goals each as Frewsburg downed Westfield/Brocton 4-1 in Central Division action.

Carr and Murray alternated scoring with Frewsburg (5-5-2, 3-4-1), tallying twice in the first and second half. Murray assisted both of Carr’s goals while Carr had the helper in the first half and Braydon Lobb made the pass on the final goal.

Westfield/Brocton’s (6-7-0, 4-4-0) lone goal came off the foot of Carson Swanson with an assist from Danny Bratton.

RED DRAGONS CLAIM CENTRAL

SILVER CREEK — A 2-0 road victory over Silver Creek/Forestville (4-7-0, 1-6-0) officially gave Maple Grove the Central Division league title outright.

Maple Grove (10-2-1, 8-0-0) will now play North Collins twice next week in its bid for a perfect league season.

WARWOLVES WIN

SOUTH DAYTON — Brian Funke scored twice as Salamanca/Cattaraugus-Little Valley (1-13-0, 1-8-0) shut out Gowanda/Pine Valley (1-13-0, 1-8-0) 2-0 in East Division play.

Funke opened the scoring in the eighth minute with an assist from Andy Herrick. The score stood at 1-0 for almost the durartion of the contest thanks to 12 saves from Ashton Clark-Sanford, but insurance was added in the 79th minute when Funke scored with help from Christian Horn.

PORTVILLE INCHES CLOSER TO TITLE

ELLICOTTVILLE — Portville defeated Ellicottville (7-4-1, 6-3-0) 3-1 to move closer to the East Division title.

The Panthers (10-3-1, 7-1-1) received goals from Bryan Randolph, Braeden Carter and Brady German with assists from Simon Szymanski and Joe Randolph. Portville can now clinch the league title next week with a win over Gowanda/Pine Valley.

HUSKIES EDGE MARAUDERS

DUNKIRK — Olean edged Dunkirk 1-0 in West Division action.

Quintin Allen gave Olean (2-11-1, 2-6-1) the only goal of the contest in the 57th minute and then held on for the victory.

Greg Orcutt made eight saves for Dunkirk (1-12-0, 0-9-0).

GATORS BLANK ‘BILLIES

ALLEGANY — Eric Spring scored a hat trick as Allegany-Limestone posted a 6-0 West Division win over Fredonia (8-5-1, 5-4-0).

Spring received help from Anthony DeCapua scoring twice and Zander Parsons adding a final tally. Spring added two assists while Cooper Wilczewski also had two helpers.

Allegany-Limestone (11-3-0, 9-0-0) needs Jamestown to defeat Southwestern (10-3-0, 7-1-0) on Saturday or will have to beat the Trojans next Wednesday to claim the league title.
