Trio of girls earn all-state soccer selections

Three local girls soccer players have added a final accolade to their fall seasons.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove’s Julianna Roth and Madilyn Seastrum along with Frewsburg’s Audrey Eckwahl have been named to all-state teams by the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports.

Roth was named to the Second Team in Class B, Seastrum was named to the Third Team in Class B and Eckwahl was named to the Fourth Team in Class C.

Roth, The OBSERVER/Post-Journal Player of the Year, scored 14 goals and added six assists as a midfielder for the Golden Cougars, who lost in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Far West Regional for the second straight season. A junior, Roth was named to the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 First Team as Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove shared second place with Southwestern. Roth additionally was named to the All-Western New York Small-School team.

Seastrum was named an OBSERVER/Post-Journal All-Star and a CCAA Division 1 First-Team All-Star as a defender. The senior was part of a Golden Cougars squad that kept 10 clean sheets en route to a 14-6-1 record. She was also an All-WNY Small School selection.

Eckwahl was named an OBSERVER/Post-Journal All-Star and the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 Offensive Player of the Year. As a junior, she scored 35 goals and had five assists for the Bears, who won the league title and reached the Section VI Class C final with a 15-3-1 record. She was also an All-WNY Small School selection.

Portville junior Grace Gariepy, a CCAA Division 1 First-Team All-Star, was named to the Third Team in Class C after scoring 17 goals and adding 11 assists for the league-champion Panthers.

In Class AAA, Lancaster sophomore defender Laila Sengbusch was named to the Second Team and senior defender Taylor Snyder was named to the Third Team while Niagara Falls freshman attacker Carmella Vilardo was named to the Fourth Team and sophomore goalkeeper Colette Printup was named to the Fifth Team. Section XI Northport’s Ava DeMarco was named the Player of the Year and Section XI Commack’s Joseph Brandofino was named the Coach of the Year.

In Class AA, Clarence senior goalkeeper Breanna Hurley was named to the First Team, Frontier junior defender Addison Malcos was named to the Second Team, Clarence senior defender Mackenzie Truman was named to the Third Team, and Frontier senior attacker Reese Downey and Williamsville East senior midfielder Maddie Waffner were named to the Fourth Team. Section I Albertus Magnus’ Teigan Cunnane was named the Player of the Year and Section V Churchville-Chili’s Brooke Elnicky was named the Coach of the Year.

In Class A, Starpoint junior attacker Grace Crissman was named to the Second Team, Lewiston-Porter junior midfielder Elisabeth Gray was named to the Third Team and Starpoint junior attacker Nora Crissman was named to the Fourth Team. Section I Rye’s Charlotte Keenan was named the Player of the Year and Rye’s Rich Savage was named the Coach of the Year.

In Class B, St. Mary’s of Lancaster’s Brittany Steele was named the Coach of the Year while the Lancers had three players named to the First Team and one named to the Fourth Team. Senior midfielder Michaela Panella, freshman attacker Marley Skalski and sophomore midfielder Clare Jones were named to the First Team while junior attacker Willow Baldree was named to the Fourth Team. Section III Marcellus’ Lexie Fragnito was named the Player of the Year.

Wilson sophomore attacker Addison Elia was named to the Second Team in Class C and sophomore midfielder Lilly Gurski was named to the Fourth Team. Section V Byron-Bergen senior midfielder Mia Gray, whose father Chris is a 1997 Frewsburg graduate, was named the Player of the Year for the second straight season.

In Class D, Section III Cincinnatus’ Jocelyn Turshman was named the Player of the Year and Cincinnatus’ Lisa Sustad was named the Coach of the Year.
