Sheriffs respond to car fire, find body

CHARLOTTE — Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies found a body after responding to a report of a car off the road this morning., according to Sheriff Joe Gerace.

A passerby reported the incident around 9:10 a.m. Gerace told the OBSERVER it appeared as though the driver experienced a medical emergency and their vehicle left the roadway on Mill Creek Road near Rood Road in the town of Charlotte. The vehicle subsequently caught fire.

It was determined the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was a 65-year-old Charles Troutman of Randolph, who was found in the vehicle deceased. The incident is still under investigation, however, nothing appears suspicious.

Gerace said it is unknown at this time whether the medical emergency or the fire caused the fatality.
