Fire in Gerry extinguished
GERRY — Investigators were called to the scene of a fire that broke out in the town of Gerry.
A passerby spotted smoke coming from the area of 2146 Hanson Road on Thursday around 12:45 p.m. Fire officials found heavy smoke coming from the basement of a property, believed to be used as a hunting or summer lodge.
Volunteer firefighters from several departments were summoned, including Gerry, Sinclairville and Fluvanna, among others, and a water source was established.
The fire was reported out in about a half hour.
