Pizza Hut Laurel Run fundraiser Monday

Laurel Hotelling's birthday is the traditional start to the Laurel Run planning season. Laurel turns 54 years old the first week in February, and everyone can help celebrate the occasion by dining at Pizza Hut on Monday, Feb. 6.
That day, the Pizza Hut restaurants at 3962 Vineyard Drive in Dunkirk and 995 Fairmount Ave. in Jamestown will raise money in honor of Laurel. The restaurants will donate 20 percent of the cost of your meal to Laurel Run, a charity event created by Laurel's parents, Wayne and Elaine Hotelling of Silver Creek.
The fundraiser at the Dunkirk Pizza Hut will run all day (11 a.m. to 11 p.m.), while at the Jamestown restaurant the fundraiser will be in effect from 4 to 8 p.m. The Dunkirk Pizza Hut has raised thousands of dollars for Laurel Run over the years, while this is the first time that the Jamestown Pizza Hut has participated in the fundraiser.
The public is asked to be aware that for the Pizza Hut fundraiser, patrons will not receive a discount on the cost of their meal. Instead, 20 percent of what they pay for their meals will be donated to Laurel Run.
To have Pizza Hut donate 20 percent of an order to Laurel Run, the patron must fill out a form and give it to the server. A printable form can be found at www.laurel-run.com. Or call The Resource Center at 483-2344 to obtain a form. Pizza Hut likely will have extra forms on hand, so those who forget to bring the form with them should notify their servers that they are there to support Laurel Run.
The fundraising promotion also applies to carryout orders, so if ordering by phone or online, it is important to inform the server of the intention to support Laurel Run upon arriving to pick up the order.
The 21st annual Laurel Run takes place July 14 and 15. Laurel Run celebrates the achievements of people with disabilities like Laurel, who has Down syndrome. Laurel has a job at The Resource Center's Mary Andrews Center on East Chestnut Street in Dunkirk. She has worked at The Resource Center for more than 30 years, and Laurel Run seeks to raise public awareness about the potential that exists within Laurel and everyone else who has a disability.
The first day of Laurel Run consists of a Jamestown-to-Dunkirk relay run featuring representatives from area school districts and employees of the Lakeview Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility. In addition to the relay run, in recent years some hearty souls have undertaken the Laurel-thon, jogging the entire 30 miles from Jamestown to Dunkirk.
The following day in Silver Creek there will be running and walking events for adults and children, plus a party in the village square. The highlight of the day is Laurel's Lap, in which people with disabilities take a lap around the track surrounding the ball field in downtown Silver Creek.
Money raised through Laurel Run is directed to Filling the Gap, Inc., which works with The Resource Center to support people with disabilities in Chautauqua County.
