The New Wave of Figurative Painting, is an exhibition of the next wave of figurative paintings by Alison Gugino, Maria Johnson, and Erin Ruffino, three painters from the State University of New York at Fredonia. A reception is scheduled for today from 4-6 p.m. The exhibition is currently on display through Dec. 14. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Incubator is located at 214 Central Ave in Dunkirk. The parking lot is accessible from Washington Street. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Alison Gugino says of her artistic inspiration, "I've always had a strong connection to horses growing up, and I wanted to continue with that into my college work. There are two different series included in the exhibition, but both have to do with how horses have shaped my life." Gugino's hometown is Fredonia. Maria Johnson describes the content of her current painting series this way, "This series focuses on gender performativity and the way that feminine bodies are seen in within traditional fine art." Johnston's hometown is Middletown, NY. Erin Ruffino states about her Reconciliation paintings, "This series explores my strained relationship with the tense inner self and the contradiction between trying to improve myself yet being afraid of change." Ruffino's hometown is Fredonia.
Alberto Rey, a SUNY Distinguished Professor, is in charge of the curriculum for the Drawing and Painting Program at SUNY Fredonia. He holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Fine Arts degree from State University of New York at Buffalo, with additional post-graduate work from Harvard University.
The Fredonia Technology Incubator promotes economic growth in Western New York by supporting entrepreneurship and the development of new, innovative companies into successful business ventures. The incubator provides administrative and business services, mentoring, networking, professional consulting, educational opportunities, and access to capital and work ready space. The Incubator is part of Fredonia's Division of Advancement, Engagement and Economic Development (EED) facilitates and supports university-community collaborations, and oversees the university's StartUp NY economic development program. The exhibit is curated by Cathy and Jesse Marion Art Gallery Director Barbara Racker who oversees the FTI Gallery.
