Steamburg man charged in fatal Gerry accident

GERRY -- A Steamburg man is facing a number of charges after an investigation into a deadly accident on Gerry-Ellington Road at 11:21 a.m. Feb. 15.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies with assistance from the district attorney’s office and the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, today announced the driver James A Newell, 41, was found to be operating the motor vehicle at the time of the crash that led to the death of passenger Paul Newell.

James Newell has been charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, unsafe passing, failure to keep right, speed not reasonable and prudent.

Newell will be in the Town of Gerry court later.
