HARTFIELD -- Two people were injured after a vehicle and Amish buggy crash around 8:40 a.m. on Route 430. Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies report an investigation into the crash showed that Timothy Spears, 55, of Ellington was traveling east when he struck the buggy and horse that was traveling in the same director. The buggy was being operated by Mollie Byler, 31, of Hartfield.
Spears states that he was blinded by the sun and did not see the buggy. The buggy was destroyed in the accident and Byler only suffered a leg injury and was treated by Hartfield Rescue.
The horse suffered cuts and bruises, but was expected to survive. Spears was also treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.
Route 430 was closed for approximately 45 minutes.
