Gowanda raising money for ambulance’s new home

GOWANDA -- And the gauntlet is thrown.
An anonymous donor has put area residents on the clock, donating $5,000 to help raise money toward a building for the Gowanda Ambulance.
However, what the residents could do is match that $5,000 and the donor would top it once again with another five grand, which would total $15,000.
According to Patricia Volk, president of the Gowanda Ambulance, the donor made the contribution because of the services that the Gowanda Ambulance provides.
"I think it means that somebody really appreciates the services that Gowanda Ambulance provides with paramedics 24 hours, seven days a week because the Tri-County Hospital is no longer in existence," Volk said. "They were very dependent on that and our paramedics can do life-saving techniques to save people before they get to the hospital because they have skills nurses can't do."
Donations can be given to its GoFundMe account (bit.ly/2nv7s6E) that is titled "Ambulance Building Fund" by Gowanda Ambulance Service Corp. The donation was given prior to the start of the GoFundMe account, and the donor later said they'd match it if it was sent.
Volk stated that donations can also be sent to P.O. Box 143, Gowanda, NY 14070, as well.
The ambulance service was given a plot of land in September (bit.ly/2mZMC36).
The building is estimated to cost a minimum of $400,000, and about $200,000 for the outside structure.
"I think its's very important in terms of medical service to the community that someone wants to support something that's so important, that serves so many people," Volk added. "We serve about 17,000 people in the area, so someone is interested in maintaining this service and helping it to grow."
Gowanda Ambulance will have a gun raffle and the 300 club on Nov. 4. There will be another spaghetti dinner and possibly a recipe book on sale with benefits going towards the building, however, nothing was scheduled.
