Police receive complaints about male following women, children at area stores

The Fredonia Police Department is currently investigating suspicious situations at Walmart in Fredonia over the past several weeks.

Specifically, on Sunday, a female subject reported that while in Walmart with her two children she was followed around the store by an adult male suspect. She made contact with Walmart employees and advised them of the situation. The suspect left the area. Following the incident the female subject came to the Fredonia Police Department and reported the incident.

On Wednesday a female subject reported that while in Walmart on Aug. 8 with her child, she was followed around the store by an adult male. She made contact with her mother (an employee at Walmart) pointed the suspect out to her mother and at that point the suspect left the area.

On Wednesday the Fredonia Police Department was informed by Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office that they took a report from a female subject on Tuesday regarding a similar incident that occurred on Aug. 11 at TJ Maxx. In this incident the adult female subject (no children with her) was followed around the store by an adult male suspect. Upon realizing she was being followed she took a picture of the suspect and the suspect left the area.

On Wednesday a female subject placed a post on Facebook alleging she had witnessed an attempted abduction at Walmart. Police said they investigated the allegaion and determined it was a false posting.

The male suspect has been identified and is the same suspect from all three incidents. The suspect never attempts to speak or contact the victims.

The Fredonia Police Department continues to work closely with Walmart personal regarding the incidents and asks anyone having information regarding this matter to contact the Fredonia Police Department at 679-1531.
