PERRYSBURG, NY – Raymond A. Turner Sr., 65, passed away September 13, 2017 at home. He was born on October 10, 1951 the son of the late Raymond and Dolores (Jordan) Turner. He married the former Carolynn Wright, who survives.
Mr. Turner was employed by the NYS Dept. of OMH for over 30 years until his retirement.
He was a very active member of the Gowanda Moose 1382, holding many offices through the years. Mr. Turner was a member of the League of Guardians at the Moose and on Saturday, September 9, he was honored with the title of Honorary Past President of the NYS Moose Association. He was also a member of the Slovenian Club, the Sons of the VFW in Gowanda, as well as the Sons of the American Legion in Gowanda. Mr. Turner was a member of the Collins Center Vol. Fire Dept. as well as the Versailles Vol. Fire Dept. of which he held many offices. He was a Catt. County certified umpire and umpired local high school softball and baseball games. Mr. Turner was an avid bowler and outdoorsman, thoroughly enjoying hunting and fishing.
Besides his loving wife, Mr. Turner is survived by a son, Raymond (Sarah) Turner Jr. of Webster, NY and a daughter, Cherilyn Turner of South Carolina. He is also survived by three stepsons; Paul (Kerry) Luce of Perrysburg, NY, Frank “Joey” Luce of Perrysburg, NY, and Jeremy (Wendy) Luce of Gowanda, NY. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Melissa John of Versailles, NY. Also surviving is a brother, David (Linda) Turner of Honeoye Falls, NY a sister Sue (Terry) Tubbs of GA and a sister-in-law, Donna Turner of Florida. Mr. Turner is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great granddaughter as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Mr. Turner is predeceased by a daughter, Stephanie Turner; a brother, Larry Turner, and two sisters, Patricia Story and Donna Turner.
Friends may call at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc. 105 E. Main St. in Gowanda, NY on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 1-4 and 6-9 PM and on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday from the funeral home following the calling hours at 1 p.m. with Rev. Mike Trenchard officiating.
