State in driver’s seat over intersection

Enough is enough.

No one will argue how dangerous it can be while driving at Williams Street and Route 60. According to our Web site alone, there have been at least eight accidents in the last four years on top of numerous complaints over safety.

Dunkirk Town Board, in this case, is taking the lead on making this intersection safer. During a recent meeting, town Supervisor Richard Purol, also a volunteer firefighter, is going to make the case for a turning lane on the four-lane road.

“I would like (the state) to at least consider something,” he said. “This is just one of many accidents we’ve had there over the years and we get a lot of complaints from the neighbors.”

So while a traffic light does not seem feasible, this option is better than nothing at all.
