Despite the arrest reports, Not Fred Fest was really upstaged this past weekend by an unfortunate fire in the heart of the village. And while we note the charges announced on Wednesday are not to be taken lightly, we emphasize that Fredonia — with all its charm — is still a college town.

Over the weekend, students were out in high numbers doing the traditional celebration to end the spring semester. Most of these students were behaved. Those who weren’t, were charged.

In the end, Not Fred Fest puts a strange light on our community. We embrace the college, but as residents are critical of this annual event.

It is the one big celebration. All in all, just like this year, we hope it continues to remain as tame as in the past.
