Keith Wofford, the Republican and Conservative party candidate for New York attorney general, deserves your vote for one simple reason: He has vowed to immediately initiate an investigation into systemic corruption involving state and local government officials across the state.
Eric Schneiderman, the state's last elected attorney general, filed more than 100 legal or administrative actions against the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress but was less willing to flex his muscle against Republicans or Democrats in New York state who abused the public's trust. Letitia James, the candidate endorsed by the Democratic, Working Families and Independence parties, bills herself as "The People's Lawyer," when, in reality, she is cut from the same cloth as Schneiderman.
"With Republicans failing to stand up to Trump, it's up to states like New York to take on his Constitutional abuses. While Kavanaugh has been approved by the Senate, he cannot and will not prevent New York State from safeguarding our rights," James said in a news release on Oct. 6. "As the next Attorney General, I will investigate Trump's Constitutional abuses and his shady business practices in New York. And I will sue the President each time this Administration violates the laws and the Constitution of our country."
Enough is enough. Wofford cites legal authority for New York's attorney general to investigate and prosecute government corruption without the consent of the governor or state Legislature.
"As Attorney General, I will use the full authority of the office to review potential problem contracts that harm taxpayers. New York, as a sovereign state with its own police power, cannot outsource its civil or criminal law enforcement responsibilities to the federal government. I intend to fulfill my constitutional duty to protect the hard-working residents of this state," Wofford said in mid-September.
He needs to be given the chance to do just that, and we believe he will do so with the eye of a lawyer and not of a politician. Keith Wofford is the best candidate to be New York's next attorney general.
