Gowanda advances to title game of Springville tourney

SPRINGVILLE — The Gowanda Panthers defeated Pioneer, 66-44, to punch their ticket into the championship game of the Springville Holiday Tournament.

After allowing Pioneer to take a 19-17 lead after eight minutes, Gowanda found its groove, outscoring Pioneer, 39-16, in the middle two quarters.

“We were diving for loose balls and we made the extra pass,” Gowanda coach Andy Bobseine said. “When we do that and communicate, we are tough to beat. If we put together a full 32 minutes of basketball, we can be really good.”

Jermani Benton had 21 points and eight assists to lead the way while Nate Brawdy finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the winners.

The Panthers now take on Springville on Thursday in the championship game.
