Fredonia wrestlers defeat Marauders

The Fredonia Hillbillies wrestling team defeated Dunkirk, 47-25, at Dunkirk High School on Wednesday.

Jake Skinner, Ceric Kristan, Hector Colom and Lucas Hoffman all scored wins by pinfall for the Hillbillies, while Giovani Russo won by a technical fall.

Alex Christy, Brandon Wallace and Peter Calanni all won by decision for Fredonia.

Dunkirk secured wins from Owen Fred, Angel Caraballo, Jeremiah Ruiz, and Adam Sanchez, all by decisions. Sanchez won in overtime over Antonio Pagan, while Fred's victory was a majority decision. The Marauders' lone pinfall victory was by Ashton Freitas over Fredonia's Kyara Caldwell.

Fredonia coach Joe Santilli was pleased with his team's performance to get the win over its cross-town rival.

"This has been a very challenging season with injuries and illness," said Santilli. "I was very pleased with the entire team's effort."

The Falconer-Cassadaga Valley high school wrestling team defeated Chautauqua Lake-Westfield-Panama, 51-26, on Wednesday at Falconer.

In the 160-pound class, Dan Torres defeated Bryce Rowe by a 5-0 decision. Falconer-Cassadaga Valley also earned pinfall victories from Bryce Baglia over Quinton Fredrick at 170 pounds at 5:04, Brayden Newman over Trent Burchanowski at 99 pounds at 3:03, and Nick Saeger over Noah Dorman at 1:25 in the 138-pound class. Dylan Ingrao finished off the victories for Falconer-Cassadaga Valley with a pin of Bradley Babcock at 33 seconds of the final matchup of the meet at 152 pounds. Falconer-Cassadaga Valley also added four victories by forfeit.

Ben Szymanowski (285 pounds) and Hunter Harris (106 pounds) both won by pinfall for Chautauqua Lake-Westfield-Panama, while Austin Bourgeois (126 pounds) and Derek Ecklund (145 pounds) both won majority decisions.
