Submitted Photo

Pictured above are the members of the 2018 Silver Creek Black Knight Competition Cheer team. They placed first in their coed division in the Wellsville Spirit Spectacular Jan. 20 and also took home the biggest award of the day, being named Grand Champions for having the highest score out of 19 teams and all divisions combined. On Jan. 21, the team competed locally at the Fredonia State Cheer and Dance competition at SUNY Fredonia. There they earned another first place title in the coed division. The team will be traveling to Elma for a competition Tuesday and then to the Section VI Championships Feb. 4 where the first place competitors in each division will then advance to the state finals. The team is judged by a panel of certified cheerleading judges and their routine rubric is based on scores in the following areas: cheer, dance, stunts and tosses, pyramid and jumps. In the first row (left to right): Kassidy Herspold, Tessa Brunner, and Captain Allison Karcz; second row: Mariah Polowy, Brooklyn Karcz, Nadia Restivo, Jenna Gabel, Emily Gilbert, and Sierra Farner; third row: Captain Kennedy Parks, Waylon Parker, Gabee Clark, Gianna Rosario, Amaya Slaght, and Bella Shomper; fourth row: Alivia Penman, Ella Monaco, Jenna Michalek, Marlie Schmidt, Captain Jenna Miller and McKenna Steklasa; back row: Captain Ryan Rocque. The team is coached by Tami Faraci.
