PIONEER -- The Fredonia Hillbillies came into the Pioneer duals tournament banged up, and head home sore but proud, as the team finished third in the tournament after the conclusion of Saturday's matches.
"I'm very pleased with the results," said Fredonia coach Joe Santilli. "This is a very challenging tournament, with a lot of matches in a short amount of time. I know we're all sore, but everybody gave a great effort."
Fredonia came into the tournament missing four wrestlers from the lineup due to injury, but that didn't hold back the Hillbillies over the weekend. Fredonia finished third out of eight teams, with an undefeated wrestler and five wrestlers with only one loss apiece.
Brandon Wallace of Fredonia finished 6-0 at 126 pounds over the weekend.
"Brandon wrestled extremely well. He's improved a lot and I'm real pleased with his progress," said Santilli.
Dalton Gardner (145), Ceric Kristan (170), Jack Storm (182), Alex Christy (195) and Jake Skinner (220) all finished 6-1 for Fredonia. Lucas Hoffman (113), Hunter Larson (152) and Cole Golembieski (160) all went 5-2 for the Hillbillies.
"It was a really good experience for all of us," said Santilli. "I'm very happy with how the whole tournament went."
Fredonia is back on the mats on Wednesday against Randolph on the road.
