T’Birds wrestling places second

BERGEN — The Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama wrestling team was in action this past weekend at the Byron-Bergen Invitational on Saturday, placing second out of 12 schools at the event with 160.5 points.

The Thunderbirds individually had a lot of success as well, having three wrestlers win their weight divisions. At 99, Chautauqua Lake’s Martin Ohlsson was able to pin his opponent in the finals to take the championship match. Also at 99, Jack Bourgeois finished in fourth after losing the third place match.

At 106, Jaydon Malecki took third place, and then at 112, another Thunderbird took the weight class. This time, Trent Burchanowski pinned his man late in the third period to take the championship match.

Brenden Rowe took third place at 126 and the third and final winner from the weekend was Austin Bourgeois at 138 with a 15-3 major decision win to take the finals.

Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama will wrestle again tonight when they host Fredonia at 6 p.m.
