The Brooks Memorial Hospital Board of Directors is in the final stages of choosing a new location for the Dunkirk-based hospital and recently received more good news for the project.
In a press release sent to the OBSERVER Wednesday, Kaleida Health, Brooks’ affiliate, reported the board and its consultants have narrowed the site search from 24 to two using a detailed analysis and a specific set of criteria.
Last year, Brooks Memorial Hospital, TLC Health Network and Kaleida Health announced their intentions to affiliate and received a $57 million grant through New York State’s Essential Healthcare Provider Support Program, most of which would be used for Brooks’ new location.
On Tuesday, the hospitals got more good news with another grant secured for $17 million from the New York state Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program. The grant will help fund and facilitate Brooks’ information technology and physical plant transformation.
The $17 million comes from a program announced by Gov. Andrew Cuomo that aids eight projects in Western New York with $44.6 million as part of the $491 million overall program to improve patient care through the development of high-quality medical facilities and programs serving the inpatient, primary care, mental health, substance use disorder and long-term care needs of communities throughout New York state.
“Now, more than ever, we need to protect health care in New York and ensure the system in place is meeting the needs of current and future generations of New Yorkers,” Governor Cuomo said. “While others seek to decimate our hospitals and reduce access to quality health care, we are investing to help ensure a stronger, healthier New York for all.”
