FREDONIA — No. 4 Fredonia pounded out 14 hits with all nine starters having at least one en route to a 13-1 five-inning win over No. 5 Royalton-Hartland in a Section VI Class B softball quarterfinal Thursday. Gowanda and Maple Grove have earned No. 1 seeds in their respective classes in the Section VI baseball playoffs, which begin today in some classes. Nelson captures US Open crown

CHAUTAUQUA — The Wednesday Travel League held its first major of the season, the U.S. Open, at Chautauqua Golf Club’s Hill Course. After the previous three events had been canceled/rescheduled due to weather conditions, league play was finally able to resume. Jeff Nelson was the overall winner after shooting the low round of 81.
