Recent Jamestown Community College graduates Marina Kessler, Kathryn Nicholson, and Johanna Nordland were among the State University and City University of New York placed on the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society 2018 All-New York Academic Team for Community Colleges.

The students were honored in Albany earlier this spring for their academic achievements, leadership, and service to their colleges and communities.

Kessler, a Fredonia resident, graduated with an associate’s degree in biotechnology. She received the JCC Trustee Award for the highest academic achievement in her degree area. Kessler plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in molecular genetics at the State University of New York at Fredonia.

While at JCC, Kessler served as secretary of Phi Theta Kappa and vice president of the DNA Club and was a member of the golf team.

Nicholson, who lives in Great Valley, earned an associate’s degree in liberal arts and sciences: mathematics and science. She plans to earn a bachelor’s degree in mathematical sciences at Binghamton University.

She was treasurer of Student Senate and served as a peer tutor for three semesters on JCC’s Cattaraugus County Campus.

Nordland graduated with an associate’s degree in criminal justice and will pursue a bachelor’s degree in intelligence studies at Mercyhurst University.

She served as secretary of the Criminal Justice Club and treasurer of PTK and the Leadership Club.

Nordland was an intern at Love Elementary School and Chautauqua County Family Court.
