2019 AAUW Scholarship Award recipients announced

The Jamestown branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW) has given over 490,000 dollars in scholarship money to over 500 area women pursuing their degree in higher education.

The money for our local scholarship program is raised through the hard work of many AAUW members that organize the What’s New Fair that has been held for the past 60 years. Please plan to join us this year at the What’s New Fair in November dates to follow in the Jamestown Community College (JCC) Union and help support local women in achieving their academic goals.

AAUW awarded 14 scholarships this year 11 of which are to very deserving women that will be transferring from JCC and three from Jamestown Business College (JBC).

Adrianna Bell will be graduating from JCC with a degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant. She will be transferring to the University of Buffalo to continue her studies in Biomedical Science to pursue a degree in Occupational Therapy.

Samantha Elleman will be graduating from JCC with an associate’s degree in Fine Arts – Music. Sam plans to transfer to SUNY Fredonia to continue her studies in music therapy and would like to be a Youth Music Therapist.

Brianna Weinaug will graduate from JCC with an associate’s degree in Childhood Education and will transfer to SUNY Fredonia for her Bachelor’s degree in Childhood Education. Inspired by her own teachers she hopes to become a Certified Elementary Teacher, grades 1 through 6.

Madison Finnerty will be graduating from JCC with an associate’s degree in Individual Studies and will be transferring to Penn State Behrend as a business major specializing in finance or supply chain management.

Hosanna Senz will be graduating from JCC with an associate’s degree in Liberal Arts Math Science and will be attending LECOM College of Pharmacy with a plan to become a pharmacist.

Jessica Mack will be graduating from JCC with a certificate in Digital Audio Production and will be transferring to either SUNY Fredonia or Masfield University of Pennsylvania and hopes to major in sound recording and music industry.

Taylor Phelps will be graduating from JCC with a degree in Business Administration and will be transferring to Binghamton University to major in economics with a goal of going to law school to be a corporate lawyer.

Alexandra Gates will graduate from JCC with an Associate’s Degree in Science. She plans to transfer to SUNY Fredonia for Early Childhood Education with Childhood dual Education and Special Education Certification. After receiving both bachelor and master’s degrees, her personal goals are to teach UPK or Kindergarten.

Corinne Wilcox will be graduating in May from Jamestown Community College with an Associate in Science degree in Mathematics and Science. She will be transferring to University of Buffalo’s Biomedical Sciences program and ultimately pursuing a career in medicine with the goal of becoming a surgeon.

Chloe Petry will be graduating in May with an Individual Studies degree with a special interest in environmental biology, law, and conservation. She will be transferring to either SUNY Fredonia or Penn State Behrend and pursuing a biology degree, after which she hopes to pursue a graduate degree in Environmental Policy or Law.

Olivia Lynn will graduate from JCC in Childhood Education. She will transfer to SUNY Fredonia for a degree in Childhood Inclusive Education. Her career goal is to receive a master’s degree and become a Special Education teacher, grades 1 through 6.

Jesse Zenns — WP is the recipient of the AAUW freshmen athletic scholarship. Jesse is a graduate of Chautauqua Lake Central School where she was also a star athlete. She is a psychology major and will complete an athletic coaching minor at JCC. Jesse plans to transfer to SUNY Fredonia and would like to become a school psychologist. Jesse is a member of the Lady Jayhawks basketball team, has had an internship with JCC athletics, organized charity basketball games, is a member of the Teacher Education Club and is a JCC Student Ambassador.

Tiffany Gloss is a Jamestown Business College graduate who received her Associate degree in Applied Science in Medical Administration in 2018, and is now pursuing her Bachelor in Business Administration with a Management option.

Stephanie Walker is a Jamestown Business College graduate who earned her Associate degree in Applied Science in Business Administration/Medical in 2018, and is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a Management option, possibly in hospital administration.
