Boy Scout, Cub Scout of the Year announced

Cooper Stenger and Matthew Brown recently earned prestigious scouting awards from the Chautauqua County American Legion.

Matthew is a Life Scout currently in his eighth year of scouting. He was named Boy Scout of the Year based on activities and achievements in 2018, including earning 16 merit badges, holding key leadership positions in the troop, engaging in environmental and community-oriented service projects, and participating in outdoor activities such as rafting in Zoar Valley and a troop-led camping trip to Gettysburg.

Cooper, who is in his fifth year of scouting, was named Cub Scout of the Year based on his activities as a member of Cub Scout Pack 267 in Fredonia. His achievements include participating in multiple service activities with the Pack, earning the ranks of Webelos and Arrow of Light, and being awarded the Religious Youth Emblem, Supernova Science Award, and Outdoor Activity Award.

Both Matthew and Cooper are currently members of the Scouts BSA Troop 267 in Fredonia.
