Blessing of Grapes Mass
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Silver Creek, 8:30 a.m. Growers can bring baskets of grapes or samples of juices, wine musts or wine prior to Mass so they can be blessed by Father Dan Fiebelkorn. He will offer a prayer of gratitude for the harvest and safety of workers. The Mass is in memory of fellow members of the grape growing community who have passed away in the last year.
Robert H. Jackson Center Constitution Day program “Plessy v. Ferguson – From Vs to & A Living Legacy”
305 E. Fourth St., Jamestown, 9:30 a.m. Panelists are descendants of the original case participants. This landmark Supreme Court case in 1896 determined racial discrimination was not in violation of the United States Constitution as long as facilities were considered “separate but equal.” The case was later overruled by “Brown v. Board of Education” in 1954 which declarred that racial segregation is not constitutional. The event is free to the public, but attendees are encouraged to register at the website. Also the Center will host “The Lemmon Slave Case Exhibit” this week.

The Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk, will hold open adoption hours from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is welcome to see the dogs and cats in need of loving homes.
