Prospect Station trainwreck memorial ceremony
Meet at the intersection of Prospect Station Road and Fish/Barnes Road, Westfield, 2 p.m. GPS near 7000 Fish Road, Westfield. Quarter mile hike to the accident site. Chautauqua Rails to Trails President Emeritus Jim FIncher will speak and relate the story of the tragic event. Current President Bill Ward will speak and perform his original composition “Christmas Eve at Prospect Station,” co-written by Mike Bratt. Refreshments will be served upon the return to the trailhead. There will also be a book-signing event with Wendy Lewellen, who has published her work “Good Soles: Chautauqua Rails to Trails Namesakes and Trailblazers.”

The Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk, will hold open adoption hours from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is welcome to see the dogs and cats in need of loving homes. Please note that during the month of December, through the generosity of an anonymous donor, if one cat is adopted, the adoption fee for a second cat will be waived, regardless of the age of the cat. Tours of the facility will not be given. Individual appointments are available throughout the week by leaving a message at 716 672-1991; press “1” for dogs or “2” for cats.
