The Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk, will hold open adoption hours from noon to 3 p.m. The public is welcome to see the dogs and cats in need of loving homes. Tours of the facility will not be given. Individual appointments are available throughout the week by leaving a message at 716 672-1991; press “1” for dogs or “2” for cats. Dunkirk Memorial Day events
Dunkirk Lighthouse, 1 Point Drive, 8:30 a.m., Memorial service co-sponsored by dunkirk Historical Lighthouse and Veterans Park; Knights of Columbus. Flags flown in honor of Barbara Lawson. Speakers U.S. Rep Nick Langworthy, Mayor Kate Wdowiasz, Lincoln Krout. Public welcome. 10 a.m. memorial service at Memorial Park presented by the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council. 11 a.m. parade travels down Central Avenue, ends at Washington Park. Hydration station hosted by Revitalize Dunkirk. Free miniature flags for families for waving as supplies last.
Busti Memorial Day parade
Former servicemen, servicewomen and those serving now interested in marching should assemble at the site of the Tap House on Busti Sugar Grove Road prior to 9 a.m. start of parade. Music by Southwestern Central School Band. Pastor Ed Moore, Pastor Roy Ferguson, will preside over the ceremonies to be held at the Gazebo. Lakewood American Legion Post 1286 will participate in services. Busti Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary invite the public to a free breakfast following the service.
