“United in Peace” non-political, ecumenical candlelight prayer service
Begins at pavilion behind Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1032 Central Ave., Dunkirk at 7:30 p.m. Scripture readings, reflections led by Rev. Robert J. Owczarczak, pastor of The Lord’s Vineyard family of Catholic parishes and Pastor Matthew Schettler of St. Paul Lutheran Church. From there, participants will process to the front of the church on Central Avenue with candles, “Pray for Peace” signs, spending 15 minutes in silent prayer as a public witness of hope. Candles provided, bring own peace signs or make them with materials provided at event. Those having difficulty standing encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Non-political, event, open to everyone. The Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk, will hold open adoption hours from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is welcome to see the dogs and cats in need of loving homes.
