JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently held a special recognition program for local middle school students at their chapter house on 70 Prospect St. to present Good Citizenship Awards. The program was opened with a welcome by Chapter Regent Linda Cass. Cass said that the students were selected for this award by the school personnel, and was designed to acknowledge the student’s accomplishments. The criteria included honor, trustworthy, truth, service, true Americanism, dedicated to God, home and country, and patriotism.

Mary Karapantso awarded the certificates to the students. Recipients included Madison DeLong from Jefferson Middle School, Abigail Bacon from Cassadaga Valley Middle School, Kerrigan Walters from Randolph Middle School, and Carolyn Ruby from Southwestern Middle School.

Gretta Archer, vice president general of the National DAR, gave a history of the DAR house. The house was constructed in 1845 and was known as the Partridge-Sheldon House. Original owner Joel Partridge was into the lumbering business and shipped lumber south. The house was sold in 1871 and additions were put on following Greek Revival architecture. Dorothy Johnson in 1969, left the house to the Jamestown DAR. Many renovations have taken place, and many volunteers have given their time to the house. Tours of the house were offered following the refreshments.
