United Way helped make it happen

The Chautauqua Adult Day Care has expanded its “Latino Outreach to Seniors” program to become a countywide program. Seven years ago, the agency wanted to be able to help older Latinos in the community be able to receive senior services to help them remain independent and at home. Many older adults who do not speak English are unaware about services in the community that can help them remain healthy and don’t access the care they need that is provided by other human service agencies. Another goal was to increase the elderly Latino population receiving services at the Dunkirk Senior Day Program. The United Way of Northern Chautauqua County recognized this need and awarded the agency Community Investment funds to begin its “Latino Outreach to Seniors” program. This funding also enabled the program to received additional support from the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation to help with the startup of the program. Since then, the United Way has been supporting the program and has been instrumental in helping the program grow and be successful in Northern Chautauqua County. This success has been a key element in helping the agency to expand the program for all of Chautauqua County.

The Latino Outreach to Seniors Program offers interpreting and translation services to older adults and families who are caring for an older Latino adult. In addition to helping individuals and families, the program is also available to provide assistance to human service organizations who may need help providing senior services to the older Latino population.
