Auxiliary of the John T. Murray Post 1017 holds monthly meeting

The Auxiliary of the John T. Murray Post 1017 recently met with President Pat Rabb presiding. A discussion on becoming incorporated was voted upon and passed. Rabb will start the process.

Brenda Drummond and Judi Perry gave a report on the post’s children’s Christmas party to be held Sunday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Post. A sign-up sheet is at the post. Children/grandchildren of Post 1017 and Auxiliary members may attend. The cost of the party is adults: $3; children $2. Each must be paid when signing up, which includes a gift for the child and refreshments for those attending and on the list. The sign-up deadline is Dec. 3, no exceptions. A girls and boys bike raffle will be held that day.

Six entries were received for the Patriots Pen. The post commander and auxiliary president read them and sent the winner to District, which will be judged in December. The local winner will be announced and presentation of awards will be given out.

The Auxiliary is always looking for new members. Males are always welcome. Members must have the person’s discharge papers. A copy is fine, and dues applications are available at the post. People can join under eligible parents, grandparents, sisters or brothers. There are so many people out there that can join and be as active as they want to be. The Auxiliary is here to help assist the VFW in programs.

A check was also sent out to purchase a Christmas tree, all decorated, to be sent to deployed soldiers to enjoy as they won’t be home.

A report on the fall conference was given by Rabb, Pat Kibbe, and Robin Richmond. It was also noted that the Auxiliary is 100 percent in all their programs and in membership. Those who need to pay their dues are asked to mail them to Pat Kibbe, 749 Park Ave., Dunkirk. Dues are $20 and will be going up Jan 1. Dues must be paid by Dec.30 to remain in good standing. Those who have not paid by then must start as new members. Also, a cancer grant is available to any member in good standing. If the paper work is needed, contact the president. A new, very short paper must be filled out.

Rabb and Richmond recently attended a bingo party with the Silver Creek VFW 6472 serving refreshments that Auxiliary and Post 1017 donated. The girls also helped the men and women play bingo. Post 6472 supplied the coupon books that can be used at the VA hospital store or cafeteria . The Auxiliary also took up baby afghans for the maternity ward and lap robes for the residents, along with writing material, word books and puzzles.

The Auxiliary will have its Christmas party Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. (note change in time and place) at the Sheridan VFW. A Dutch treat dinner with a short meeting will be held. Contact Rabb at 342-1238 if attending so reservations can be made by Dec. 3.
