Chautauqua Lake Students of the Month

David Gard

Students of the Month at Chautauqua Lake Central School, honored for October achievements, are Brittany Fardink, Josephine Simora, Grace Bukowski, Peyton D’Anthony, Grace Seekings, and David Gard. The student recognition program honors students in grades 7 through 12 whose classroom performance, attitude toward learning, work ethic and extra-curricular activities set them apart.

Senior Brittany Fardink is the daughter of Tom and Stacey Fardink of Ashville. Math and science are Brittany’s favorite classes. Brittany is known for her contributions to CLCS athletic teams: as a freshman and sophomore, she competed on the soccer team and as a junior she competed on the volleyball team. Her two favorite sports, however, are basketball and softball; she has competed on both those teams since freshman year. Last year Brittany was recognized as a JCC College Connections Student of the Year, recognizing her achievements in college-credit courses taught at Chautauqua Lake. When asked what historical person she admires, Brittany chose “Susan B. Anthony because she fought for women’s rights.” If she could be another person for a day, she would be Princess Caroline of Monaco because “she is part of the royal family.”  She looks forward to attending college to prepare for a career in elementary education.

Josephine Simora, daughter of John and Teri Simora of Ashville, is a junior who says Advanced Placement U.S. history, art, chemistry, and field science are her favorite classes. Josie has performed in school musicals since she was a freshman, competed on the volleyball team for three years, and now also competes on the High School Bowl academic team. Outside of school, Josie enjoys playing the piano and painting. She admires Ruth Bader Ginsburg because “she’s one of the first women to serve on the Supreme Court. She always argued for equal rights among women and minorities. She’s a very cool lady in general.” If she could be another person for a day, Josie would choose Beyonce because “she’s fabulous and it’d be great!” After high school, she would like to become an illustrator or an animator.

Sophomore Grace Marie Bukowski, daughter of James and Stephanie Bukowski of Mayville, selects Global Studies and English as her favorite subjects. Grace has competed on the swimming and basketball teams since seventh grade. She has also been honored as a Student of the Month before. Outside of school, Grace likes to paint, draw, take pictures of the sky, and play on a travel basketball team. When asked what historical person she admires, Grace chose Leonardo Da Vinci because “he made beautiful art, and I love art.” If she could be another person for a day, she would like to be her favorite actor, Benedict Cumberbatch.

Peyton Nicole D’Anthony, a freshman, is the daughter of Jodie and Rob D’Anthony of Ripley. English and Spanish are her favorite subjects in school. Peyton has competed on the CLCS soccer team since eighth grade. She has been selected a Student of the Month twice before and is on the high honor roll. Outside of school, she enjoys playing soccer, reading and running. She admires Nelson Mandela for his work in South Africa. If it were possible, she would like to “trade places with someone from any time in history to see what it would be like to live in a completely different time period.” Peyton hopes to attend Cornell University to major in psychology.

Grace Seekings

Grace Elizabeth Seekings, an eighth grader, is the daughter of Aaron Seekings and Lisa Ryan of Ashville. She competes in softball and enjoys horseback riding. Grace looks forward to studying animal science in college. Grace admires her sister, so if she could be another person for a day, she would like to be her sister.

Seventh grader David Russell Gard is the son of David and Violet Gard of Ripley. His favorite classes are gym and social studies. He participated in the Running Club this fall. Outside of school, David likes to read, play video games, spend time with friends, and play basketball. As an elementary school student in Ripley, he participated in Boys on the Right Track. The person in history whom he admires is George Washington because “he was a daring warrior and he became our first president.” When asked who he would like to be for another day, he said “to be honest, no one. I would rather keep me to myself.” In the future, he would like to “find a job that suits my needs and wants. Then I can support my family and myself. There is so much more time, but with time, plans will come about.”

Teachers Amy Redman and Tara Reyda coordinate the Student of the Month recognition program in the secondary school.
