Dunkirk Fredonia Lions Club members have been keeping busy

The Dunkirk Fredonia Lions Club has had a busy two months. In December, the Club sponsored its annual Breakfast with Santa at the Moose Club in Dunkirk. Almost 300 children and parents enjoyed a complementary breakfast and a visit by Santa Claus and Mrs. Santa Claus. Virginia Harper was gracious to fill in as Mrs. Santa Claus and as usual, Santa was none other than Peter D. Clark. Also in attendance were senior citizens from St. Columban’s on the Lake. Each child and senior were given a pillowcase that was made by members of the Northern Chautauqua Quilters Companions. Each child was also given an age-appropriate book from the Literacy Volunteers Bookstore.

The Dunkirk Fredonia Lions Club also sponsored a winter jacket drive during the months of December and January.

Brand new winter jackets were donated to various groups in the community. The Club discovered that there were many homeless families, and families in need, especially from Puerto Rico. As a result, these families did not have winter clothing and were in desperate need of jackets for their children. The Lions Club donated over 130 winter jackets to the following organizations: Willow Mission, Connections North, St. Gianna Molla Pregnancy Outreach Center, Fredonia Elementary School, and other families in need.

The Club also donated pillowcases, books and socks to Willow Mission for their annual Christmas Baskets outreach.
