Fredonia Toastmasters Club takes top spots in speech contest

Richard Friemann recently received first place at the Area 14 Speech Contest, with his inspiring speech in the International Speech Contest. Friemann, president of Concord Spellbinders Toastmasters, captured the interest of the audience with the difference between wishes and plans in his speech titled “On the Other Hand.” This presentation was not only captivating to the audience but spread humor and interest along the way.
Ned Lindstrom competed in the Tall Tales contest, taking second place with his speech “Buried Alive.” Lindstrom had twists and turns throughout his speech bringing drama and suspense.
Lindstrom stated, “Preparation of a Tall Tales speech not exceeding the 6-minute deadline is not only challenging but also rewarding when the ideas seem to link together to make a great storyline. Toastmaster members’ constructive feedback has not only helped me with this speech but in my professional career.”
Jennifer James from Speakeasy Toastmasters Club, located in Orchard Park, took Tall Tales first place with her speech titled “Cooking with Claire” with a humorous tale of cooking. Nanci Pipo, Speakeasy member, created much interest with the speech “This is Water’ which took second place in the International Speech contest.
James Rawcliffe announced the upcoming open house featuring “The Importance of Public Speaking in Public Life” featuring Steve Keefe, former Chautauqua County legislator and former mayor. Public speaking and effective communication is very important. Learning how to become a more effective public speaker can be the key between success and failure in your life at home, at work and in our everyday communication. The Open House is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at Jewett Hall, SUNY Fredonia.
Concord Spellbinders Toastmasters Club focuses on building personal and professional connections with a variety of people and public speaking. Toastmasters helps build self-confidence whether you are an extrovert or an introvert, speaking in public, for professional or personal reasons, is a daunting task.
The key is being prepared. The trick is finding a place that provides a warm and supportive atmosphere in which to learn and practice. Concord Spellbinders Toastmasters Club is that place and welcome guests to visit at no cost.
The next scheduled meeting is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Concord Spellbinders Toastmasters Club meets the second and fourth Wednesday each month at 7 p.m. at SUNY Fredonia, Room 118, Jewett Hall, 280 Central Ave., Fredonia.
