Laureate Alpha Pi Sorority holds Founder’s Day celebration

Laureate Alpha Pi Sorority celebrated Beta Sigma Phi Founder’s Day at the Parkview Restaurant on April 26, 2018 with president, Gwen Haskin presiding.

She welcomed new member Libby Cardy-Sciarrino to her first Founder’s Day celebration.

A short meeting was held before the festivities began.

The Chapter birthday party in March was a fun time with the exchanging of Secret Phi Pal gifts and names revealed. New names for the coming sorority year were chosen.

The next meeting, which was scheduled for May 21 was to be hosted by Amy Begier and Linda Bennett.

The May social, our Mother’s Day celebration will be at the May meeting with co-chairs Barb VanDyke and Sylvia Colbey.

The last social of the sorority year will be the annual Family Picnic on June 9 at the Westfield Fish and Game club from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Members are asked to bring a dish to pass. There will be the annual Yard Stick Auction.

In service, the members voted to donate to the WACS After Prom Party. Clara will be sending a check to WACS for the Senior Girl Scholarship. At the May meeting members will be voting for Program of the Year and there will be Installation of Officers.

After a wonderful meal by Dave at the Parkview Restaurant, the Founder’s Day program followed with the Founder’s Day Pledge and a message from Laura Ross Wingfield at Beta Sigma Phe International.

The annual Girl of the Year award was presented to Gwen Haskin by Clara Winkelman. Gwen received the sorority trophy engraved with her name, a Girl of the Year charm and a yellow rose.

The 2018-2019 sorority theme is “A Quilt of Friendship.” This will be used for events and decorations for the next sorority.

Elna Meleen was presented with the Golden Circle Award for her 50 years of dedication to sorority. She was presented with a certificate from Beta Sigma Phi International, a golden circle charm, and a yellow rose.

The closing ritual was recited by all with congratulations to the recipients and an evening of socializing.
