Girl Scouts to host one-day Join-A-Thon

With the start of a new program year, Girl Scouts of Western New York (GSWNY) will hold the Girl Scout Join-a-thon Nov. 14, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and take on-the-spot registrations over the phone. This event will utilize 10 different radio stations throughout GSWNY’s nine county regional service area to direct listeners to call 1 (888) 837-6410 and register for Girl Scouts.

Girl Scouts offers the best ALL-GIRL, GIRL-LED leadership development experience for girls in the world where their specific needs can be met. The proof is in the results as 80 percent of Female Tech Leaders, 50 percent of Female Business Owners, and 90 percent of Female Astronauts in the U.S. were all Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts develop a strong sense of self, display positive values, seek challenges and solve problems in their communities. From building robots, rock climbing at camp, running a cookie business, to service projects at local food banks and animal shelters, the adventures for a girl to explore her leadership potential are endless in Girl Scouts.

Adults who register to become volunteers and or register their girls during the Girl Scout Join-A-Thon will have a chance to win Girl Scout goodies. The first 100 to join receive an exclusive Join-A-Thon patch and all those who register during the event have a chance to win a $150 Amazon Gift Card, a year’s supply of Girl Scout cookies, or a $25 Amazon Gift Card when they call 1(888)837-6410. As a special bonus, if 200 girls register, the one year’s supply prize will be upgraded to a two year’s supply of Girl Scout cookies.

Adults must be 18 years of age or older to volunteer and girls must be in grades K-12 to join. In addition, Girl Scouts is sending out a special invite for girls in grades K-1 to join as Daisy Girl Scouts. At Girl Scouts, girls get to lead their own adventure and team up with other girls in an all-girl environment to choose the exciting, hands-on activities that interest them most in important skill areas like science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), outdoors, life skills and entrepreneurship. While a girl may be exposed to these subjects at school and in other places, at Girl Scouts she will experience them in a unique way that puts her on a path to a lifetime of leadership, adventure, and success.

This is a one-day event and those interested in joining as an adult volunteer or girl member can still register after; however, the special Girl Scout goodie prizes won’t be available. For more information, call 1 (888) 837-6410 or visit gswny.org to join.

Starting at $3.50/week.
