Beef quality assurance transportation training offered

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County is pleased to announce the upcoming Beef Quality Assurance Transportation Training to be held in Cherry Creek for anyone who trucks cattle. This educational program is being hosted by Empire Livestock Market, sponsored by Cargill and supported by NYS Agriculture & Markets, New York Beef Producers Association, NY Beef Council and Cornell Cooperative Extension.

This program will be held on Friday, Jan. 10, at Empire Livestock Market, 6732 Pickup Hill Road, Cherry Creek, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be free of charge, with lunch included. Registration is required by Jan. 6.

Transportation Quality Assurance plays a critical role in the health and welfare of cattle. By using best practices, transporters can save the beef industry millions of dollars each year. When a transporter participates in the program they are showing consumers they are ready to take every step possible to keep cattle as healthy and safe as possible.

The program will cover many topics including: Cattle handling guidelines & diagrams; checklists for loading/unloading; checklists for hot/cold weather factors; checklists for fit/injured/weak cattle; checklist for traveling; loading suggestions and worksheets; and bio-security & emergency action plans.

Registration is required by Jan. 6 by contacting Lisa Kempisty at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County at 716-664-9502 Ext 203 or ljk4@cornell.edu or Shannon Carpenter, DVM at (716)783-4650 or Shannon.carpenter@agriculture.ny.gov.

The Beef Quality Assurance Transportation Training is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE-Chautauqua) in line with the County’s 20/20 Comprehensive Plan.
