The Fredonia Business Club seeks donations of used golf clubs

The Fredonia Business Club, a student group open to all majors at the State University at Fredonia, is developing a program to provide basic golf lessons and course etiquette for students.

Recent studies have indicated that women and minorities feel that they are excluded from the informal networking that happens in their workplaces, especially the networking that often occurs on the golf course. To address this issue, the Business Club has started a new program with the goal of helping to improve students’ golf skills. Of special interest to the club is providing female and minority students with the opportunity to develop skills that will better prepare them for the relationship building and networking that oftentimes take place on the golf course.

Those who have gently used golf clubs and bags and want to donate them can email advisor Mark Nickerson at mark.nickerson@fredonia.edu.

The goal is to make the program an annual one with lessons in the fall culminating with actual course time in the spring. The Business Club has run golf tournaments in the past, and may plan a similar outing for “graduates” of the golf program, alumni, and stakeholders next year.
