Smith-Schmidt-Krawiec 58th family reunion held

Family members gathered Aug. 1 in Forestville.

The Smith-Schmidt-Krawiec 58th family reunion was held Aug. 1 at the home of Joshua and Stephanie Woods, 911 Hurlbert Road in Forestville.

Josha is the great-grandson of the George and Phyllis Smith family. George was the third son of Andrew “Schmidt” Smith and Angeline Krawiec Smith from Roswadow, Poland. The other children were Michael Smith, Paul Smith, Peter Schmidt, Katherine Frost, John Schmidt, Joseph Smith, Stella San George and Josephine Jakubowski.

Because of the “COVID-19 restrictions,” fewer people were in attendance. The number was 40.

The committee was: Colleen Schmidt, Norman Schmidt, Rick Jenson, Jeanette Meadows, John Smith, Pat Carr, Susan Styborski, Joseph C. and Stella Granata.

They will also chair the Aug. 7, 2021 one.

Nick and John Smith set up a huge tent, which came in handy with the rain coming toward the end of the party.

A cornhole game was enjoyed by the adults. Also, visiting the many animals and the pond on the grounds was enjoyed.

There was the birth of a daughter, Erin R. Smith to Janetta Jenner and Nick Smith on Oct. 2, 2019.

The death of Clarence “Sonny” Smith of Chicago, on Aug. 19. 2019. He was the son of the late Paul and Josephine Smith.

Sallie Jo Blanchard of Rayham, Mass., died on May 20, 2020. Sallie Jo was the daughter of the late Dorothy Gloniak and the late Kenneth Strawser.

Frank Smith of Silver Springs, Maryland died on May 6, 2020. Frank was married to Jeri Smith, and was the oldest grandson and came from Europe; having been born in Poland.

Karen Bailey of Bradenton, Fla., died on Jan. 17, 2020. Karen was longtime friend of Shirley Smith of Bradenton.

Hamburgers and hot dogs were roasted by Joshua and Nick. An assortment of salads, corn on the cob, pineapple delight, chocolate cake and frozen ice cream treats were served at 2 p.m.

Pendants with Polish Folk Art were hand-made by Alexis and Julie Granata and were sold for the 2020 reunion.

Colleen Schmidt made a 4- by 6-foot poster and drew a flower with nine petals on it, each to represent a different family. As each came to sign in, they put a thumb print on their family’s petal and then signed it. They had their pick of colors to use.

The oldest person there was Joe C. Granata and the youngest was Erin R. Smith, Janetta and Nick Smith’s daughter.

The 25th anniversary for Ronald and Laurie Siracuse will be on Aug. 5, 2020.

Tanisha and Kianna Smith, twin daughters of Donna and Matthew Smith, graduated from Jamestown High School, with High Honors. They will be attending Jamestown Community College, majoring in science and math.
