Westfield Memorial Auxiliary announces annual dinner/meeting cancelled

WESTFIELD — The Westfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary board is cancelling its annual dinner/meeting due to COVID-19.

Postcards are being mailed to all members at large so they will be able to vote for new and renewed board members. Marcia Wethli is resigning from the board and is thanked for her years of service. Also, board president Marjory Fritz is resigning. The Board thanks her for her many years of service and commitment to Westfield Memorial Hospital.

Although activities were limited due to the pandemic, the auxiliary did accomplish several things. New window blinds and chairs were purchased for Meyer House, coat hooks were purchased for the hospital’s Community Room and Christmas decorating was done in lobby, community room and bistro. Fundraisers to support these projects included two chicken and biscuit dinners, citrus fruit sale, and sale of ornaments, magnets and mugs.

Community outreach and advocacy included a donation to the First Responders Memorial Fund, participation in Community Connection and Brocton Health Fair, and a donation to Big CHQ for WMH Foundation. During the pandemic the board recognized WMH employees by purchasing 45 gift certificates worth $10 gift certificates for local eateries and sponsored a Dessert Day with 15 homemade pies for employees.

The board recognized with appreciation the $3,000 donation made to the auxiliary by the hospital’s medical staff. The donation will replace much of the revenue lost by cancelled fundraisers. Future plans are to continue supporting the hospital through physical plant improvements and advocating its use for medical care throughout the communities it serves.
